Supporting Your Health During Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT)

Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT), also known as hormone therapy, is a common treatment for prostate cancer that works by lowering testosterone levels or blocking its effects. Because prostate cancer cells often rely on testosterone to grow, reducing these hormone levels can help slow or stop the progression of the disease. While ADT can be an effective treatment, it often comes with side effects that can significantly impact quality of life. Many men experience fatigue, loss of muscle mass and strength, weight gain, increased body fat, decreased bone density, hot flashes, changes in mood, reduced motivation, sleep disturbances, and a higher risk of developing insulin resistance or cardiovascular disease. These changes can feel overwhelming, making it difficult to maintain the healthy habits that support recovery and long-term wellness.

How Health Coaching Can Help

Although a health coach does not diagnose, treat, or replace your medical team, coaching can provide the education, accountability, and personalized support needed to help you navigate the lifestyle challenges that often accompany ADT.

As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, I work alongside your healthcare providers to help you:

  • Build sustainable nutrition habits that support energy, weight management, and overall health.

  • Support realistic exercise routines that help preserve muscle mass, improve strength, and support bone health (with your physician's approval).

  • Reduce inflammation and support heart health through whole-food nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices.

  • Improve sleep quality and manage daily stress through practical, evidence-informed strategies.

  • Create healthy routines that increase consistency and confidence, even during treatment.

  • Stay accountable and motivated when side effects make healthy habits feel difficult.

  • Focus on the aspects of your health that you can control while receiving medical treatment.

Cancer treatment affects more than just the bodyโ€”it can influence emotional well-being, relationships, confidence, and daily life. My coaching approach focuses on supporting the whole person by helping you create realistic, lasting habits that fit your lifestyle and goals.

Together, we'll develop practical strategies that help you feel stronger, improve your resilience, and support your overall well-being throughout your treatment journey. Small, consistent changes can make a meaningful difference in how you feel each day and help you continue living a full and active life while undergoing ADT.

You don't have to navigate ADT alone. If you're looking for compassionate guidance, practical lifestyle strategies, and ongoing support throughout your treatment, I'd be honored to partner with you on your journey toward better health and well-being.

Disclaimer: Health coaching is designed to complementโ€”not replaceโ€”medical care. All nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle recommendations should be discussed with your physician or oncology team, especially during cancer treatment.
